SECL sets off new fiscal with record output

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the Chhattisgarh-based arm of Coal India Limited (CIL), has set new records at the onset of the new financial year 2023-24.

According to the  SECL spokesperson, the physical performance of the company was encouraging and it set new records in coal production, overburden removal (OBR) and coal despatch in April 2023—the starting month of new fiscal. SECL produced 14.12 million tonnes (MT) coal in April 2023, which is the highest ever since its inception. This is also the highest ever production achieved in the month of April.

The company has registered a growth of about 1.24 million tonnes month-on-month. The spokesperson said 29.29 million cubic meters of overburden was removed last month, about a 43 per cent surge compared to 20.44 million cubic meters removed during the corresponding period of last year.

Even in Despatch, the company has left behind the same figures of the previous years in the month of April. It has despatched 14.50 million tonnes of coal. In comparison to April 22-23, the company reported a growth of 13 per cent.

It may be noted that the company has produced 167 MT of coal in the recently concluded financial year 22-23 that was highest in the history of the SECL. The company has been given a target of 200 million tonnes of coal production in 2023-24.
