The people of the industrial town of Raigarh led by Congress leader Anil Agrawal submitted a memorandum to the district administration demanding reconstruction and renovation of Kelo Maiya Ghat.
The campaign launched to clean Kelo, the lifeline of the region, continued this week also. Congress leaders Anil Chiku, Anuj Patnaik, Manoj Patnaik, Arvind Yadav, Rupesh Acharya, Chandrasen Yadav, Sudama, Shree Ram, Vishwajit, Anand, Santosh, Ramlal along with the delegation met the District Collector, Taran Sinha and discussed about the renovation and cleaning of River Kelo.
The demand for the reconstruction of the ghat established on the banks has been going on for decades. A memorandum with signatures was handed over to the district administration with a request for the reconstruction of Beldula, Kharra Ghat and Panjri Plant Ghat.
Congress leader Anil Agrawal told the District Collector that people from all walks of life had been using Kelo River for religious purposes. The tradition continues and the festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated every year on the bank with full religious fervour and zeal. The delegation informed that a decade ago, a plan was implemented to build a marine drive on both sides of the Kelo River.
For this, a two feet high wall was also constructed between the road and the river. Subsequently, the existing ghats on both sides of the river ceased to exist.
Last Sunday, under the Kelo cleanliness drive, a campaign was launched in Beldula. Those who actively participated in the campaign included Rajendra Maharaj, Arvind Yadav, Pratap Yadav, Rupesh Acharya, Brajesh Devangan, Krishnavtar Rathore, Ramesh Vishwakarma, Vishwajit Sidar, Chandrasen Yadav, Vinay Sidar, Parmanand Patnayak, Ritesh Yadav, Bhavani Sidar and Neeraj Verma.
The cleaning campaign started at 6 am in Madheshwar ghat of Kelo river and was completed at 8.30 am.
