In yet another step taken to protect the environment by reducing CO2 emissions, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant is providing Electric Vehicles (EVs) for use by offices of the Plant’s Chief General Managers, replacing the petrol-driven vehicles being used for their official day to day travel.

The second lot of 15 EV vehicles of TATA, model TIGOR were handed over to SAIL- Bhilai Steel Plant by Tata Motors’ officials at an informal function in Township Garage on Wednesday. S K Gajbhiye, acting CGM I/c (M&U), was the chief guest on the occasion. It is noteworthy that the first lot comprising 22 EVs were received by Anirban Dasgupta, Director I/c (BSP) earlier on 12th May 2023.

As many as 42 EV vehicles are being taken on lease by SAIL-BSP for use by offices of CGMs of Bhilai Steel Plant, making this one of the largest such acquisitions by any PSU.

SAIL-BSP has taken a number of measures over the years towards green technology & sustainability. In line with the global initiatives towards adopting green measures for reducing carbon emissions and to combat climate change, BSP has formulated an action plan to reduce CO2 emissions to 1.98 T/TCS (tonne per tonne of crude steel) from the present emission rate of 2.58 T/TCS by the year 2030.

While a number of green technology initiatives are in the pipeline to achieve this ambitious target, efforts to bring down CO2 emissions in its core steel making operation would be complimented by all other actions which will also reduce CO2 emissions, demonstrating BSP’s commitment to combat climate change. Adopting green technology in vehicles used by senior officers in management for their travel is another step in this direction taken by BSP.
