The officer of the food department posted in Kanker district has been suspended for pumping out water from a reservoir to search his mobile.

Rajesh Biswas, a food inspector posted in Kolibeda block of Kanker district, had gone for an outing in Kherkatta Paralkot reservoir last Sunday. Due to his negligence, his mobile fell into the reservoir.

Though the cost of the mobile was not so that a food inspector could not make an effort, he was probably carrying vital documents in his handset that propelled Biswas to anyhow recover the mobile. The villagers and divers failed to recover the mobile.

Following pressure from the officer, the irrigation department started pumping out water from the reservoir. It continued for 3 days; during the period over 41,000 cubic meter of water was pumped out that could have irrigated 1500 acres of area.

Taking strong note of the incident, Kanker District Collector Priyanka Shukla ordered to suspend Biswas following violation of services rules. The food inspector had been placed under suspension with immediate effect, the order said.

Shukla had also served show-cause notice to the sub divisional officer of water resources department seeking response as to how water was released without the permission of superior authorities. The officer, R C Dhiver has been asked to submit his reply within 24 hours or face disciplinary action under the service rules.
