Cyclone Biparjoy to intensify in next 24 hours

Mumbai, June 10

The ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm Biparjoy is expected to intensify further in the next 24 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Coastal areas of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala were set to experience high-speed wind and harsh weather. IMD has issued a warning for fishermen while Ships, Aircraft and RADAR stations of the Indian Coast Guard Region North West are-undertaking proactive measures for safety at sea along Gujarat coast view in view of Cyclone Biparjoy. ICG Ships and Aircraft relayed weather warning to mariners.

The IMD on Saturday said cyclonic storm Biparjoy would intensify further in the next 24 hours and move gradually north-north westwards in the next three days. Very rough to high sea condition is likely to prevail over adjoining areas of northeast Arabian Sea on Saturday, it added.

Sea condition is likely to be rough along and off Saurashtra and Kutch coasts on June 10 and likely to become rough to very rough between June 11 and 14. 

“It’s moving slow. Still there is time for landfall. For the next five days, it will be over the sea. We will update on the landfall in subsequent bulletins,” said IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.
