Raipur, June 17

A 24-year-old woman was arrested by the Raipur police for allegedly duping aspirants for providing jobs in the forest department.

The Raipur police swung into action following a complaint lodged by Sadhelal Banjare, a forest guard with the Chhattisgarh government’s forest department. Banjare in his complaint cited the video of a sting operation that went viral related to cash for jobs demanded by the accused, identified as Sweta Dewangan.

The complainant said the recruitment process for the forest guards was going on in the department. The physical test is under process for which an independent agency has been hired for following fair procedure. In the video, Sweta allegedly demanded Rs 150,000 as advance and finalised the deal for Rs 500,000. She had negotiated with 17 aspirants while settling the deal with 13.

Banjare, on whose complaint Telibandha police lodged an offence, said the video in the social media was sending the wrong message against the forest department. Besides, it was also misleading and complicated the fair recruitment process.

Acting on the complaint, the Raipur Police nabbed Sweta Dewangan, who was running a placement service in Telibandha area of the state capital. The police officials quoting the statement of Sweta said she was providing private jobs and had no link with the forest officials.

She said she had collected Rs 450,000 from three applicants and had kept the amount safe. If they were selected, she would have kept the money. She would have returned the amount if the candidates failed to find a place in the selection list.

The police have seized the laptop, computer, application form related to the recruitment of forest guard, mobile phone and other relevant documents from her office. Further investigation in the case was in progress.
