SAIL-BSP’s wire rods find ways in new sectors

Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an arm of state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has always strived to develop new products to make its product basket more varied and cater to customers in new segments.

Keeping the spirit, Bhilai Steel Plant has developed a new product of High Carbon Wire Rods from SMS3-WRM route. The Wire Rods have been rolled in IS 7904 Grade HC38B in 5.5 mm.

After Initial trials, license for IS 7904 was taken from BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) in the month of April 2023. After obtaining this approval, order for HC38B in IS 7904 was obtained from customer HD Wires, Indore and first commercial rolling of 55 billets into Wire Rods was done on 01 July 2023.

This rolling as well as testing was witnessed by customer at Bhilai Steel Plant. After full satisfaction of the customer, first consignment of 31 coils of High Carbon Wire Rods has been despatched on 26 July 2023 to customer, M/s HD Wires, Indore. This shall be the first ever despatch of High Carbon Wire Rods from Bhilai Steel Plant.

These high carbon Wire Rods find application in several sectors. These are Umbrella Rib Wire, Hair Pin Wire, Healed Wire & Reed Wire for Textile Industry, Spoke Wire, Shutter Spring Wires, Upholstery Springs, Automobile Springs, Industrial screens, Auto Cables, Wire Ropes and Musical Instruments.
