Noted paediatric orthopaedic Dr Ajai Singh took over as the new Director of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Raipur.

The 60-year-old doctor is known for in emergency medicine and took the lead in Indian Society of Paediatric Traumatology, proposing new academic and clinical subspecialties like acute care surgical. Prior to joining Raipur, he was Director at AIIMS, Bhopal.

Coincidentally, Dr Singh succeeded Dr Nitin Nagarkar as AIIMS Director, both in Raipur and Bhopal. He took over as AIIMS Bhopal Director last year in August. Prior to this, Dr Singh was holding the responsibility of Director at the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health, Noida.

After doing MBBS and MS from King George Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, Singh held the responsibility of HOD of Paediatrics Orthopaedics Department of KGMU for a long time.

In his message, Dr Singh said within a short time since its inception, AIIMS Raipur has been able to provide the much-needed platform for scientific exchange, collaborations, public awareness health programs for medical professionals, scientists and the general public of Central India. Several CMEs, Workshops, Guest lectures, quiz competitions and training programs have been regularly held at the institute which kept the scientific, academic and research atmosphere bustling.

A developing institute provides a lifetime opportunity to the founder faculty to establish an institute with the ethics that they aspire for. It also poses some unique challenges. The faculty of AIIMS Raipur has worked relentlessly to establish their departments, improve patient care and advance the teaching and research at the institute, Dr Singh said, adding that they have represented AIIMS Raipur at various national and international scientific platforms, have been awarded prestigious fellowships, have undertaken career advancement trainings, developed teaching and training modules and have published their research in high impact journals.

The administrative wing, engineers, support staff and all other employees of the institution continue to work hard to build the institution to the expectation of the public. “I am confident that AIIMS Raipur will continue to get full support from MoHFW, GoI and thus grow by leaps and bounds and become a Center of Excellence in teaching, patient care and research,” the new Director of AIIMS Raipur said.
