New Delhi, August 14
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday invited the vegetable vendor from the outskirts of the national capital for lunch who has hogged the headlines following his reaction on soaring vegetable prices.
In July, Rahul Gandhi had shared a video on his official Twitter handle, showing a vegetable vendor in tears at the Azadpur market in Delhi. Rameshwar, the vegetable vendor, with teary eyes said, “The tomatoes are too expensive. I do not have enough money to buy it.”
“We are not even sure at what price we will be able to sell it. If they get damp in the rain or something happens to the stock, we end up making a loss,” the distressed farmer had said. The vendor added that inflation had put him in a desperate situation and he couldn’t even earn Rs 100-200 a day.
The former Congress President on Monday had lunch with Rameshwar at his residence. Sharing his picture with Rameshwar, Gandhi said in Hindi on X, “Rameshwar ji is a lively person! In him, the glimpse of the affable nature of crores of Indians can be seen.”
Those who move forward with a smile even in adverse circumstances are truly ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata (India’s destiny makers)’,” Gandhi said.
The Congress also shared their picture on X, earlier known as Twitter, and said, “Rameshwar ji had expressed his desire to meet the people’s hero. They met up.”
In pictures of the meeting shared by several people on X, Gandhi and Rameshwar can be seen having lunch at the former’s home here and the two sharing light moments during the meeting.
