Raipur, September 12

Gearing up for the ensuing assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched the “parivartan yatra” from Dantewada district, down south of the state.

The first yatra will be completed in 16 days, covering a distance of 1,728 km across 21 districts. The party also plans to start second ‘Parivartan Yatra’ that will be flagged off by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president J P Nadda in Jashpur (north Chhattisgarh) on September 15.

After offering prayers at Maa Danteshwari temple in Dantewada, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was supposed to flag off the yatra and address a public meeting. But due to inclement weather, his visit to the once Maoist heartland was cancelled.

Union Minister Smriti Irani reached Jagdalpur to attend the programme in place of Shah. But the weather condition did not allow her to fly to Dantewada. She later flew to Kolkata when forecast predicted prevailing climatic condition to continue.

The BJP General Secretary and In-charge of party affairs in Chhattisgarh, Om Mathur flagged off the yatra at the Maa Danteshwari temple. Besides BJP State President Arun Sao, Party’s National Vice President and former Chief Minister Raman Singh, party’s Chhattisgarh co-incharge Nitin Nabin, and senior leaders were present on the occasion.
