Sreekutty turned one; and the gala show organised to mark the occasion drew the attention of visitors.
Birthdays are special occasion for human. But for animal, it is something unique. The birthday celebration of a baby elephant named Sreekutty in Kerala thus makes a story.
The elephant calf turned one on November 8. The Kappukadu elephant rehabilitation centre in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala is her home. The officials did not turn any stone unturn to make the event memorable.
A special cake was made of sugarcane, jaggery and pineapples, and was gifted to Sreekutty. As expected, she was so excited that she made a mad rush to the table.
A few tourists were also the guest at her birthday celebration. Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Secretary to the Forest Department, cut the cake on her behalf and also presented her with a traditional shawl. Sreekutty basked in all the glory and attention she was receiving on her special day.
Not just birthday, the day is special for the baby elephant as the forest officials has rescued and helped her survive. Sreekutty was hardly a month old when she was spotted in a fragile condition near the forest areas of Thenmala, in Kollam district of Kerala.
She got separated from her parents. The officials searched her parents but in vain. Finally, they decided to bring her to the centre. The event marks her rescue date and her eventual survival which the forest officials believe is a reason to have a grand celebration.
The Kappukadu elephant rehabilitation centre is home for 15 elephants in the age group of three-and-a-half-year-old Kannan to a 78-year old pachyderm named Soman.
