Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday evening predicted early mid-term elections to the Bihar Assembly.

Addressing a public meeting at the second leg of his day’s programme at Jogbani, 300 km north east from here on Nepal border, Amit Shah categorically said there would be early elections in Bihar and BJP would come to power.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had repeatedly said there would be early assembly elections and asked the party leaders to be prepared for mid-term elections. Term of the present assembly expires in November, 2025.

Nitish refused to comment.

Sharp reactions on Amit Shah came from RJD family. Reacting to the comments of Shah that JDU was like water and RJD oil, former Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, said, “Since Amit Shah is a Baniya, he knows the art of paani aur tel.”

Tejpratap Yadav, elder son of Lalu Prasad, said curse of Hariharnath (Shiva Temple at Sonpur) would fall on Amit Shah and BJP would be defeated in the elections. Last week, Lalu and Rabri had offered prayers at Hariharnath temple.
