Raipur, October 4
Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) announced the successful commencement of production at the Gare Palma IV/6 coal mine, strategically positioned in Chhattisgarh.
The significant development marks a vital milestone in JSP’s continued journey in advancing its raw material security. This mine will also support the proposed expansion of its Raigarh integrated steel plant to a capacity of 9.6 Million tons per annum (MTPA) from the existing 3.6 MTPA.
“The proposed expansion aligns perfectly with the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat, as it will substantially bolster India’s steel production capacity using our own swadeshi coal. We aim to finance this expansion predominantly through internal accruals, ensuring a healthy balance sheet”, said Bimlendra Jha, Managing Director, Jindal Steel & Power in a statement.
Gare Palma IV/6 sub-block is connected with the district headquarter, Raigarh, located about 45 km south east of the area by an all-weather road via Tamnar joining S.H.-1 at Punji Patra at a distance of about 23km from the district headquarters.
A total of 77.712 million tonnes (MT) of net ‘Proved’ reserves and 80.3852 MT of ‘Indicated’ reserves totalling to 158.0972 MT of grades varying from B to G (GCVs between 3167 to 6112 Kcal/Kg) have been estimated in the entire block. Total mineable reserves will be 90.369 MT of which 66.371 MT shall be opencast and 23.998 MT shall be underground.
