Rourkela Steel city remembers Lata Mangeshkar

Singers on Stage: The artists who mesmerized the audience

Lata Mangeshkar Fans’ Club, Rourkela paid heartfelt tributes to the Queen of Melody in the concert ‘Meri Awaaz Hi Pechaan Hai’ organized at Civic Centre, Rourkela on Tuesday to mark her Birth Anniversary.

Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) with the additional charge of Bokaro Steel Plant was the Chief Guest of the evening. The DIC and the other dignitaries lighted the ceremonial lamp and paid floral tributes to Lata Mangeshkar to mark the occasion.

A number of timeless classics of the legendary singer were performed with dexterity and aplomb by the talented artists of the city. The concert, studded with mellifluous songs was enjoyed by a houseful audience who attended the show in spite of the inclement weather, showcasing their immense love and respect for the Lata didi. 

It is noteworthy that the 6th  edition of the concert was organised by Lata Mangeshkar Fans’ Club, a group of music followers of Lata Ji from the Steel City. The show commenced with a captivating saxophone performance of ‘Ae Dil Aai Bahar’ by Baljit Singh. It was followed by a heart touching old classic ‘Pyar Kia to Darna Kya’ by Basavdutta, the emerging Ollywood singer, which was the first vocal song of the evening.

Thereafter, songs like Tere Bina Jiya Jaye Na, Dil Hoom Hoom Kare,  Sayonara, Karvaten Badalte Rahe,  Kisi Raah Me, Aisa Samaa Na Hota, Ab to Hai Tumse, Dil to hai Dil, and many other of her soothing melodies took the audience down the memory lane to some of the best years of Indian music.        

Basavdutta Mohanty, Archana Satpathy, Eeti Pattnaik, Subhasmita Das, Nibedita Behera, Aakankhika, Debjit Rabha, Dr. P K Sahu, Sabyasachi, Satya, Tarun, and Abhaya were the singers who kept the audience captivated throughout the evening. Earlier, the chief-guest of the evening, the DIC felicitated all the singers and musicians.

The show was compeered by Md. Foeem and Ms. Jyotsna. Mr. Joydev Mazumdar coordinated the inaugural session while Sasanka Pattnaik, General Secretary, Lata Mangeshkar Fans’ Club proposed the formal vote of thanks.

S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Somnath Tripathy, ED (MM), Alok Verma, ED (Mines), Tarun Mishra, ED (P&A), CA B D Sivhare, Senior Faculty, Art of Living & former Independent Director, Balmer & Lawrie, Lion Vinod Mohunta, PDG, Lions Club, Rourkela, Mrs. Manju Devi Bagadia, Director, Grihasthi Udyog, Mrs. Anita Agarwal, Entrepreneur & Social Worker were the Guests of Honour. Mrs. Seema Dev Bhowmick, President, Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Mrs. Harshala Suryawanshi, Dr. Susmita Das, Mrs. Namrata Verma, Mrs. Pravati Mishra, all Vice Presidents of Deepika Mahila Sanghati and many Senior Officers of RSP were also present on the occasion.
