The Election Commission of India has ordered the immediate removal of two collectors and three superintendents of police in the poll-bound Chhattisgarh.
The state goes to the polls in two phases on November 7 and 17. Following the declaration of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into effect in the state. The poll panel on Wednesday cracked the whip on the All India Services officials and asked to immediately remove two district collectors and three superintendents of police (SPs).
The affected officials include Bilaspur Collector Sanjeev Jha and Raigarh Collector Taran Prakash Sinha. The Superintendents of Police include Durg SP Shalabh Sinha, Korba SP Uday Kiran and Rajnandgaon SP Abhishek Meena.
Besides, the Election Commission has also asked to remove two additional superintendents of police that include Abhishek Maheshwari in Bilaspur and Sanjay Dhruv in Durg.
In its order, the Election Commission of India has cited laxity of the officials in discharging election duties. The officers have been asked to immediately hand over charge to their junior officers.
The poll panel has asked for a panel of three names each from the Chief Electoral Officer by tomorrow evening. It will select the successors from the panel list.
