The Pipe Plant-ERW of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has established a new single day production record by successfully making 575 tonnes of pipes on 15th October, 2023.
The unit also achieved the record passing of 459 Tonnes of pipes on the same day. The earlier best single day production of the unit was 552 tonnes recorded on 25th September, 2022. It is noteworthy that the pioneering pipe-making unit commenced its journey 63 years ago on October 15, 1960, by producing its first pipe.
Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC), RSP with the additional charge of Bokaro Steel Plant visited ERW Pipe Plant on 16th October to congratulate the collective. He was accompanied by S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Somnath Tripathy, ED (MM), Tarun Misra, ED (P&A), Alok Verma, ED (Mines) and A K Behuria, ED (F&A).
Congratulating the collective over the record breaking performance, the DIC said, “The recent outstanding performances of the Pipe Plants are testaments to the potential of the team. Let’s also focus on enhancing profitability through value addition while increasing our production volume.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining the plant’s efficiency to cater to a niche market with products of the highest quality.
Suryawanshi, in his congratulatory address, urged the collective to sustain its excellent performance and emphasized the need to reduce production costs through innovative methods and optimal resource utilization. He also stressed the paramount importance of safety and encouraged the collective to uphold safety standards.
It is noteworthy that the feat has been achieved through concerted efforts of the pipe plant collective with well coordinated support from Production Planning & Control, Research & Control Lab, Hot Strip Mills, Traffic & Raw Materials Department and all other associated agencies. There was meticulous planning and execution beginning from ensuring coils availability to seamless logistics in the production chain of HR coil charging, processing, testing and finished pipe stacking in the yard. The electrical and mechanical maintenance of PP-ERW department worked relentlessly to maintain the maximum equipment availability and zero delays.
Subrat Kumar, CGM (HSM-1, CRM, SSM, Roll Shop & Pipe Plants) thanked the associated departments for their undeterred support which helped in scripting the record. He also thanked the top management for their able guidance and assured them that the department will make relentless efforts to stand up to the expectations.
Several CGMs, Senior Officers of the Plant, a large number of employees as well as executives of Pipe Plants and associated departments were present on the occasion. Avinash Choudhary, GM (Pipe Plant) welcomed the gathering and coordinated the programme.
