ED raids BJP leader’s premises in Chhattisgarh

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted raids at the different places including the premises of a senior BJP leader in Chhattisgarh reportedly in connection with the civil supplies scam in the state.

The teams of the economic investigation agency stormed at 14 different locations in Raipur, Tilda, Korba, Durg, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon. Those under the scanner had been associated with the rice mills. Though the agency officials could not be contacted, sources said the action was in connection with the on-going investigation of the ED in the alleged civil supplies scam in Chhattisgarh.

A senior BJP leader had also come under the lenses of the agency. Before dawn, the ED officials reached the house of Gopal Modi in Sitamarhi locality of Korba. Modi, who is senior BJP leader and presently holding the charge of treasurer in the party’s district unit, was asleep when the officials reached.

The news of ED raid at the BJP leader’s house created panic in the political corridor as the state is gearing up for the assembly elections. Modi is also associated with the rice business in the state.  The team also raided the premises of BJP leader’s brother Dinesh Modi.

Sources said raids were also conducted at the rice millers Rajesh Agarwal and Ashish Khandelwal.
