After streamlining the management in government schools, additional chief secretary of education K K Pathak has started action against the 270 constituent colleges in different universities.
Pathak set up a three-members official committee headed by Baidyanath Yadav, secretary of the department to probe the working of the government colleges. Other members of the committee include Satish Chandra Jha, special secretary and K P Srivastva director of higher education.
The committee will visit all the colleges and submit its report by November 5. State government gives Rs 500 crore annually as grants to these colleges for infrastructural development.
Committee has been asked to visit the colleges, see the condition in libraries, labs, class rooms, toilets and offices. They would also study the teachers students relationship in the institutions.
Government has directed the vice chancellors to ensure minimum 75 per cent attendance of students in the colleges before they are allowed to appear at the university examinations.
Academic calendars, including sports events must be displayed in the colleges, universities have been asked. Officials would see whether the grants sent by the state government were being used properly or not.
Government has asked the principals of the senior secondary schools to allow students of classes nine to 12 to evaluate their answer copies of monthly examinations. Teachers will only mark the defects in their answers
