Dev Deepawali was celebrated across the country with great zeal and zest on Monday with the holy city Varanasi stealing the show by wearing a magnificent look by illuminating by lakhs of earthen lamps (diyas).
The festival of Kartik Poornima is celebrated in the city of Varanasi in Bhojpuri region of Uttar Pradesh. It falls on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartika and takes place fifteen days after Diwali.
The ghats of Varanasi were specially adorned with the lights and diyas. The riverfront ghats of the Ganga were illuminated with over 10 lakh diyas to honour the river and its presiding goddess. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today expressed happiness about the presence of diplomats from several nations, who got a glimpse of India’s cultural vibrancy in Kashi’s Dev Deepawali.
Modi posted on X: “Kashi is synonymous with Dev Deepavali and this year as well, the celebrations have been grand. Equally gladdening is the august presence of diplomats from several nations, who have got a glimpse of India’s cultural vibrancy.”
