The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Chhattisgarh will launch a campaign to eradicate leprosy in the state.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai instructed the officials to launch a “war against leprosy” while reviewing the performance of the health department in Mantralaya on Friday.  The Deputy Chief Ministers, Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma were also present in the meeting.

Earlier, the second cabinet meeting of the new government approved the supplementary bill for the financial year 2023-24 to be tabled in the ensuing session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.

The Chief Minister asked the health department officials to immediately start work on freeing the state from leprosy. Asserting that providing best health services to the people was top in the priority list of the state government, Sai asked the officials to ensure availability of medicines in all the hospitals. He directed to promote the use of generic medicines and ensure doctors prescribe it.

Sai gave instructions to take immediate steps for the welfare of mentally ill patients wandering on the streets in the state. He said health staff should provide immediate medical care to mentally ill patients. The Chief Minister said work should be completed within the deadline.

He directed the officials to complete the work of Super specialty hospitals in Jagdalpur and Bilaspur by February. The state government plans to inaugurate both the hospitals by the Prime Minister in the first week of March.

The Chief Minister instructed to keep the ambulance services prompt.
