Timber trade goes online in Chhattisgarh

The sale of timber in Chhattisgarh will go online to facilitate better competition and transparency in the trade.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Union Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav on Monday inaugurated the electronic auction system in Chhattisgarh at Aranya Bhawan, the headquarters of state’s forest department located in Nava Raipur.

The e-auction system will bring competition and transparency in the auction of wood in various timber depots of the Forest Department. In the process of e-auction, e-auction work can be done by MSTC through EOI. By conducting the timber auction of the timber depot through e-auction, the payment process for the government and the bidder will become quick and transparent. This will increase the revenue of the state government.

It is worth mentioning that in Chhattisgarh state, auction of timber, beams, commercial bamboo, firewood is done in various timber depots of the forest department. 27 sales depots are being operated in the state. At present, paperwork and a lot of records were being maintained in the process of additional payment, now with the launch of e-auction system, paperwork will be eliminated.

On this occasion, the state-of-the-art auditorium ‘Dandakaranya’ constructed by the Forest Department at a cost of Rs 2 crore was also inaugurated. The ultra-modern auditorium has a seating arrangement for 140 people with facilities like interior decoration, light, sound system, air conditioning, stage, LED screen.

It was needed for seminars, workshops, training programs for field staff, joint forest management committee members held from time to time in the forest headquarters. With its launch, various programs organized by the forest department at the headquarters level can now be done in a ‘state of art auditorium’.
