A jawan of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) opened fire at his colleagues, killing two and seriously injuring two others in Balrampur district on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Bhuthi camp of CAF, about 500 km from the state capital, on Wednesday morning. A jawan opened fire from his service rifle on his colleagues after a ruffle over a petty issue.

While one policeman died on the spot, another succumbed to his injuries while on way to the hospital. The victims have been identified as Rupesh Patel and Sandeep Pandey.

A chaos was created in the camp following the sound of gunshots. The other jawans in the camp rushed to the spot and apprehended the jawan, who has been identified as Ajay Sidar.

The two injured jawans, of which one was reported to be critical, were shifted to Samri primary health centre. The authorities were planning to shift the critically injured jawan to Ambikapur for better medical care.

The senior police officials have rushed to the spot and are interrogating the jawan to establish the exact cause that led to the tragic incident. Unconfirmed reports said that the accused clashed with the colleagues on a petty issue of food and took the extreme step to shower bullets on his fellow policemen.
