Chhattisgarh to start paddy purchase from November 14

Chhattisgarh will start the paddy procurement at minimum support price (MSP) from November 14.

The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting held Wednesday afternoon. “Based on the recommendation of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, it has been decided to start purchase of paddy from November 14, 2024 in cash and linkage from the farmers of the state at support price,” a state government spokesperson said after the meeting.

Paddy procurement in the state will be done till January 31, 2025, he added.

The process of registration of farmers through the Integrated Kisan Portal by the Department of Agriculture for procurement of paddy at support price is in progress and will continue till October 31, 2024. Over 2.4 million farmers are likely to be benefitted. The spokesperson said the biometric system for procurement of paddy at support price would continue to be applicable as per previous year.

In the last Kharif marketing season, Chhattisgarh government had procured a record 14.5 MT paddy from the farmers. However, it has decided to break the record and has set a target to procure 16 MT of paddy at MSP in the kharif marketing season 2024-25.

The state cabinet has also given approval to purchase 4.02 lakhs new Bardana through Jute Commissioner for stocking the yield purchased. The officials said a total of 8 lakh bales of rice will be required for paddy procurement.

It has been decided to provide a maximum of two tokens to the marginal and small farmers and a maximum of three tokens to the large farmers for controlled and systematic procurement of paddy in the procurement centers. Paddy will be purchased through the electronic weighing machine in all procurement centers.

The cabinet also decided to pay a total of 12 months honorarium at the rate of Rs 18,420 per to data entry operators working in cooperative societies in Kharif marketing year 2023-24. A total expenditure burden of Rs 60 crore 54 lakh will come for the same.

Among the important decisions, the state cabinet decided to withdraw 49 cases recommended by the sub-committee of the Council of Ministers constituted in connection with the withdrawal of the cases from the courts related to purely political movements in the public interest.

Chhattisgarh Police Service (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules 2021 in rule 8 (2) recruitment process for appointment to the post of Subedar/Sub Inspector Cadre/Platoon Commander only once in the year 2024 within the prescribed maximum age limit of candidates. An important decision has been taken to provide a five years exemption. Maximum age limit inclusive of all relaxations shall not exceed 45 years.

Draft of Chhattisgarh Rural Drinking Water Management and Maintenance Rules, 2024 was approved to ensure supply of clean drinking water to every house of all Gram Panchayats of the state. Under which the General Administration Committee of the Panchayat will see to its duties as well as the operation and maintenance of the rural drinking water system. Besides determination of water charges with the approval of Gram Sabha, decision of new connection, financial management, repairs, determination of drinking water quality and redressal of complaints.

An important decision was taken to grant compassionate appointments to the eligible dependents of deceased teachers (Panchayat) cadre employees. Under this, such teachers (Panchayat) Cadre employees whose death was done in service and whose dependents are eligible for condolence as per rules, will be given compassionate appointment as per the eligibility criteria of Chhattisgarh Teachers (Panchayat) Cadre Rules 2018. In such a situation, it has also been decided to relax the earlier order of allotment of posts to the Panchayat and Rural Development Department to fill up the post from the School Education Department, so that compassionate appointments can be provided to the eligible dependents of the deceased.

The state cabinet also approved a proposal to amend Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan (Misa/D.I.R. Person Disqualified for Political or Social Reasons) Samman Nidhi Rules, 2008. Under which the late democracy fighters will be cremated with state honors and their families will be given a grant of Rs 25,000.

A proposal to purchase holograms for liquor bottles from Bharat Pratibhuti Printing House, Nashik Road (Maharashtra), an entity of the Government of India, was also approved to provide more security features in the hologram.

Under Chhattisgarh State’s Industrial Policy 2019-24, a special investment incentive package for steel downstream projects, ethanol units and core sector cement industries has been approved.
