Bharti Airtel outshined rival Reliance Jio in terms of subscriber addition for the third straight month in October.
The data released by the telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday said that
Airtel added net 3.7 million wireless subscribers growing 1.12 per cent month-on-month as against Jio’s 2.2 million, up 0.55 per cent in October. Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 2.7 million, down 0.9 per cent from the previous month.
Jio however continued to lead with the overall subscriber base of 406.36 million, followed by Airtel’s 330.29 million and Vi’s 292.84 million. But, Jio also had the highest proportion of inactive users at 21.41 per cent, as against Airtel’s 3.26 per cent and Vi’s 11.22 per cent.
The wireless subscriber market share of the top three operators Jio, Airtel and Vi was 35.28 per cent, 28.68 per cent and 28.42 per cent respectively at the end of October.
In the wireline segment, Jio was the top gainer with 245,912 additions, much more than Airtel’s 48,397. Jio’s wireline base with 2.3 million users has reached halfway to that of Airtel’s 4.5 million in the month of October.
Mobile number portability requests increased from 520.8 million in September to 529.60 million in October, data said.
