Chhattisgarh government has decided to give energy charge discount to the steel industry in the state to combat slowdown in the sector.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. “The cabinet took an important decision and decided to give a maximum discount of one rupee per unit in energy charges to the steel industry under the special relief package,” a state government spokesperson said. The decision will be effective from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
The HV-4 category electricity consumers that included mini steel plants and steel industries that do not have captive power plants or have less than one megawatt, and its load is more than 2.5 MVA will be eligible for the discount. The move of the Chhattisgarh government is aimed to keep the industry in competition and to provide relief due to industrial and economic recession.
The Chhattisgarh industrialists have welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to the state government. “I would like to point out that, although there is a huge difference between our demand and the proposal approved by the Cabinet, we are grateful and satisfied that we were heard,” leading industrialist Anil Nachrani said.
This decision reflects that they were successful in convincing the government that the steel industry is an important part of Chhattisgarh’s economy, Nachrani said, adding that they are confident that they will continue to have a constructive dialogue with the government and work together to support all steel industries in the state. Their aim is to strengthen the sector and contribute to the overall development of Chhattisgarh.
