Chhattisgarh’s first DGP Shri Mohan Shukla passes away in Bhopal

Shrimohan Shukla, the first Director General of Police of Chhattisgarh, passed away Wednesday morning.

He was 85 and breathed his last in Bhopal, where he had settled after retirement from the Chhattisgarh police. His last rites were performed in Bhopal in the afternoon today.

Shukla became the first DGP of Chhattisgarh when the state was carved out of Chhattisgarh on November 1, 2000. He headed the police force till May 26, 2001.

After retirement, he was staying at Vaishali Nagar in Bhopal. He took the Voluntary Retirement during the tenure of Ajit Jogi government paving way for the appointment of RLS Yadav as the new DGP.

Shukla was appointed as the Chairman of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission, the position he held till October 2004. He had also been Superintendent of Police in various districts of Madhya Pradesh. He was known as an honest IPS officer who used to carry his tiffin from his home even while going on official tour.

He received a serious setback in October last when his only son Tushar committed suicide in his house. Tushar (54) was suffering from depression for the last few years and took the extreme step. He left behind his wife and a son.
