Raipur, February 25

Six hostels will be built for working women in Chhattisgarh with special assistance from the central government.

The ministry of women and child welfare has released an amount of Rs 202 crore to expedite the projects. The six hostels include three in the state capital, one in Sector-16 in Nava Raipur, and two hostels in Bilaspur and Sirgitti.

The working women hostels will be built in the capital Raipur at a cost of about Rs 48 crore. The proposals for building the hostels were sent to the central government in 2024. The state government received the approval on Monday, a government spokesperson said.

Raipur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Avinash Mishra said that with the construction of the hostels of 250 beds each, working women in the capital would get safe residential facilities at affordable rates. All the three hostels would be three-storeyed. Each room will be double bedded and will have an attached bathroom. Efforts will be made to have mess facilities in all the hostels, so that working women do not have to go out for breakfast and food.

These hostels will be built in residential areas only, so that women do not face any kind of problem in commuting. The Commissioner has said that efforts will be made to complete the projects within a year by speeding up the processes. The corporation will be the construction agency for all the three hostels and its operation and maintenance will be done on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

According to the employment office, about 10,000 women have come from outside and are working in government departments in the capital. He said that the number could increase in private institutions.
