NTPC Group to invest Rs 96,000 crore in Chhattisgarh

In a major boost to sustainable energy sources besides facilitating Government of India’s efforts towards clean energy transition, NTPC Limited along with its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has signed multiple agreements worth Rs 96000 crore with the Government of Chhattisgarh at Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit-2025 held at Raipur on Monday.

The Agreements include Nuclear, Pump Hydro and Renewable projects based on Solar/Wind/Hybrid sources in the state.

The first MoU was signed between NTPC Ltd. and Government of Chhattisgarh for setting up of 4200 MW Nuclear Capacity in Chhattisgarh at an estimated investment of Rs 80,000 crore.

The second MoU was signed between Government of Chhattisgarh, CSPGCL (Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited) and NTPC, pertaining to an intent to invest approximately Rs 5876 crore in setting up 1200 MW of Pumped Hydro Storage Project at Sikaser, district Gariyaband in Chhattisgarh.

The third Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) was signed between NGEL and CSPGCL for setting up Renewable Energy projects up to 2 GW in the state, at an approximate investment of Rs 10,000 crore which will help in meeting Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) of CSPGCL as well as Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) of Chhattisgarh DISCOM.

The above ceremony was held in the august presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai; Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain; Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Energy
Subodh Kumar Singh; MD CSPGCL Sanjiv Kumar Katiyar and other state officials. Team NTPC was represented by RED WR- II and Ash NI Pradipta Kumar Mishra; ED (Nuclear) Prasenjit Pal; GM Hydro J C Kakoti; and AGM (NGEL) Bimal Gopalachari.

Speaking on the occasion, P K Mishra, RED (WR- II & Ash NI) underlined the significance of Power in development of the state and NTPC continuous service to the nation during the last fifty years. He
further threw light on the performance of NTPC plants in Chhattisgarh (Lara, Korba and Sipat) and hoped that the newly signed projects will help Chhattisgarh to establish as major hub energy besides promoting
development of the region.

Mishra also emphasized on partnership with State Govt for various other areas of common concern such as Biomass, Ash Utilization, inventory, procurement services and domain knowledge.
