In a move aimed to check the increasing cases of power theft, Madhya Pradesh government had decided to create a separate law enforcement setup for the state-run electricity companies.
The Madhya Pradesh government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan today gave its nod to a proposal moved by the energy department to open separate police stations for the electricity companies. The matter was pending for the last one year.
Concerned with the regular attack on its officials while in action to check power theft, the senior officials of the Madhya Pradesh Power Distribution Company had raised the issue with the department. The lack of coordination with the police department had further complicated their job.
“The department of energy had communicated to the power companies and asked to identify space for opening separate police stations,” the officials said. It would be powered with required codes to take action against the persons involved in power theft.
The electricity police station would have a set up of two sub inspectors, four assistant sub inspectors, eight head constables, 16 constables and 30 additional personnel.
