NTPC’s Kameng project’s unit-3 goes on stream

State-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) said that the third 150-Mw unit of Kameng Hydro-Electric Project of its subsidiary North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) had started commercial operation from mid-night.

“Consequent upon successful commissioning, unit-3 of 150 MW of Kameng Hydro-Electric Project (4×150 MW) of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary company of NTPC Ltd) has been declared on commercial operation with effect from 00:00 hours of January 22, this year,” NTPC said in a regulatory filing.

Kameng Hydro Electric Project is a run-of-the river based project situated on Bichom and Tenga Rivers, both tributaries of the Kameng River in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. Total installed capacity of the project is 600 (4×150) MW.

The Francis turbines commissioned for this project are designed to operate at rated heads of 501 meters, making them the highest head Francis type hydro turbines in the country. On commissioning of all four units, the project will be able to generate 3,353 Million Units (MU) of clean electricity annually.

With this, the commissioned and commercial capacity of NTPC group has become 63,785 MW and 63,125 MW, respectively, the company added.
