Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad was shifted to AIIMS-Delhi in an air ambulance today evening after his health condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ranchi.
Prasad (72), convicted in fodder scam cases, is suffering from 16 different diseases including lung infection. However, his Corona reports were found negative. He was undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS).
Earlier, a medical board of eight doctors examined the former Railway Minister in the paying ward of RIMS and recommended shifting to New Delhi for better medical care. The Jail department also examined the recommendation of the medical board and gave consent for treatment in AIIMS, New Delhi for a month.
On Friday, Prasad’s wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, sons Tej Pratap and Tejashwi reached Ranchi on a special plane after being informed of the veteran leader’s deteriorating health. The family met Prasad in the night. Lalu Prasad has been having breathing trouble for the last two days. On Friday, he was found to be having pneumonia.
After meeting his father, Tejashwi told reporters that his condition was worrisome. Tejashwi also met Chief Minister Hemant Soren at his residence during the day to seek cooperation of the state government in arranging to take his father to Delhi.
A 10-km green corridor was created between RIMS and Ranchi airport to facilitate uninterrupted movement. Besides the family members, a team of doctors also accompanied the ailing leader in the air ambulance.
