Patna, January 24
Mrs Chhaya Mishra, a leading woman advocate of Patna High Court and former joint secretary of Advocates Association, on Sunday appealed for suspension of the proposed “Talabandi (locking up)” of the courtroom of chief justice on Monday.
She said unpleasant events should be avoided with the wisdom of the leaders of the three associations of lawyers. The coordination committee of the three associations should intervene immediately and avert a showdown between the Bar and the Bench, she added.
Ms Mishra requested the association leaders to have immediate negotiation with the High Court administration to resolve the grievance of advocates on issues related to listing of cases and hearings.
She recalled the unpleasant incident that took place in Madras High Court where the police force was called to control the agitating lawyers when Mr S J Mukhopadhyay was chief justice.
Ms Mishra said the standard operating procedures were adopted after the co-ordination committee agreed before the High Court administration last month. Association must take urgent steps to defuse the situation, she added.
