Once again, flurry of political activities had started in the poll-bound West Bengal with the arrival of Union Home Minister and BJP stalwart Amit Shah.
During his two-day visit, Amit Shah would take stock of party’s preparedness for the assembly elections in West Bengal that had been crucial for the BJP.
His visit comes in the backdrop of growing rebellion in the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) with many ministers in Mamata cabinet and ruling party MLAs speaking out against the party and the functioning of state government.
Speculations are rife that former TMC minister Rajib Banerjee along with expelled TMC MLAs Baishali Dalmiya and Prabir Ghoshal may join the saffron party during Shah’s visit.
On Saturday morning, Shah would be visiting Iskcon, Mayapur. Later, he would go to Thakurnagar in North 24 Parganas, a bastion of Matuas, where he will address a public rally. Shah is scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting with social media cell of the party. He will also hold a meeting with party leaders to review its poll preparedness.
A senior BJP leader said on Sunday he would be visiting Aurobindo Bhawan to pay his respects to Sri Aurobindo. He would be going to Bharat Sevashram Sangha before proceeding to Howrah where he would address a public meeting.
Rajib Banerjee today quit the party after resigning as MLA of the West Bengal Assembly. He tendered his resignation via letter to party supremo Mamata Banerjee.
The West Bengal forest minister quit Mamata Banerjee cabinet last week, joining the growing list of dissenters who have put the ruling camp in a tight spot ahead of the assembly elections.
