In a major boost to infrastructure development in Chhattisgarh, Centre today gave its nod to pending projects of national highways in the state.

Besides, the ministry has also permitted four roads passing through the state as national highways. The development came after a meeting between Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari held in New Delhi today.

The highway projects expediting in the state were also reviewed during the meeting attended by senior officials of department and state government.

“I’ve given permission to start work on around 13 pending projects of national highways in Chhattisgarh. We’ve also permitted 4 roads passing through state as national highways,” Gadkari said after the meeting.

In a letter sent to the ministry last year in November, Baghel had urged to approve projects that included besides others Raigarh – Gharghoda – Dharamjaigarh – Pathalgaon Road, Ambikapur – Vadrafnagar – Bamhni – Renukoot – Banaras Marg and Pandaria – Bajag – Gadasarai Road.

The Chief Minister had said the routes pass through tribal-dominated areas and also connect the proposed routes under the centrally-sponsored Bharatmala Project. Earlier, the ministry had approved and started the work for tarring off Bhopalpatnam-Taralagud road, upgrading the Tatibandh flyover and Patrapali-Katghora Road in the city of Raipur.

The details of the projects approved were awaited.
