In a major political development in the poll-bound state of Tamil Nadu, late J Jayalalithaa’s close aide VK Sasikala today announced to retire from active politics.

In a statement issued, Sasikala said that she was quitting public life for strengthening the AIADMK rank and cadre. She also appealed to the party workers to stand united and ensure that DMK was defeated in the forthcoming state assembly elections.

Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK ruled out any possibility of re-inducting V K Sasikala and her nephew T T V Dhinakaran into the party fold.

It also clarified and asserted that its ally BJP would not interfere in the internal affairs of the party. The BJP, which is contesting the state polls in alliance with AIADMK, was reportedly pushing for inducting Sasikala back into the fold.

Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, considered as the spokesman of the state government, told reporters at the AIADMK headquarters that the party has “rejected” suggestions on Sasikala and Dhinakaran’s reinduction into the party or the alliance.

“Chief Minister (Edappadi K Palaniswami) has made it clear that there is no chance of Sasikala and Dhinakaran joining AIADMK. 100 per cent there is no chance and this is the stand of the party,” Jayakumar said, even as the BJP made last ditch efforts to bring the two warring factions of the ruling party together for the April 6 Assembly elections.
