The West Central Railways (WCR) has installed automatic lighting systems at Madhya Pradesh’s three major stations in order to conserve energy.
Now, as soon as a train chugs into the platform at Bhopal, Jabalpur or Narsinghpur railway stations, the lights at the platform will light up automatically. And as soon as the train leaves, some lights will turn off.
The circuit is linked with the signaling system and will automatically work with the movement of the trains.
The new system had been installed in the three stations falling under the limits of West Central Railways. According to the officials, when the train arrives, 100 per cent lights at the platform will be turned on automatically and will remain on during the train’s halt at the station platform.
When the train crosses the platform, 70 per cent of the lights will be switched off automatically and only 30 per cent of the lights will remain on. The senior officials in the zone say the system will be expanded in other stations of the zone.
The national transporter is also working on the plan to introduce the automatic lighting facility in other major railway stations.
In Bhopal railway station alone, the power consumption has come down by 120 units on one platform in during 6 pm to 6 am when the automatic light system is active. The Railways could save about Rs 3.50 lakh annually from a single platform.
