The next time when a jawan of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) would roll out thick flat-woven rug or carpet, it would have a Swadeshi stamp.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) would be procuring dhurries (thick flat-woven rug or carpet) for the CAPFs from the Khadi and Village Industries commission. The deal is to promote Swadeshi items in the security forces.
In the first phase procurement, besides dhurries, ITBP would also purchase blankets and towels. The process of procuring these items has begun, the ITBP officials said. For cotton durries, the ITBP has been identified as the nodal agency to procure it for CAPFs.
Approximately 2.5 lakhs dhurries will be procured by ITBP for the CAPFs at a cost of Rs 17 crore.
The ITBP and the commission had also inked a deal for purchasing mustard oil. According to the agreement, a total of 1,200 quintal of mustard oil is being procured from the KVIC by the ITBP with a total financial implication of Rs 1.73 crore.
During a meeting of the Directors General of the CAPFs held in October 2019, discussion was held for the use of terry Khadi uniform and other items of swadeshi origin among soldiers and the items should be made available to the CAPFs.
During the Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the ITBP Headquarters here last December, an exhibition stall was also set up displaying the the KVIC products.
The ITBP had suggested that dhurries, blankets, towels, mustard oil, yoga kit, hospital bed sheets, pickels could be purchased for the forces through KVIC.
