Over 200 personnel from the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) would return to their parent unit as they had been left with no work.
The Special Protection Group (SPG) act was amended in December 2019 that curtailed the number of protectees whom country’s special force was providing security cover. A good number of specially trained personnel drawn from different security forces were left with no job.
According to a news agency, the SPG has ordered mega repatriation of over 200 personnel to their respective security forces. This is the biggest repatriation of SPG since the amendment in the Special Protection Group bill.
The amendment provides security only to the Prime Minister of India and their immediate family members residing with them at the official residence. Earlier, it used to provide security to former prime ministers as well but now they will be covered under Z+ security.
Maximum personnel are reported from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
