Ministers in the Chhattisgarh Government and the lawmakers of the ruling Congress party would donate a month’s salary for combating COVID-19 in the state.
The move came following the appeal of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who held a virtual discussion with Congressmen to list out suggestions for effectively dealing with the pandemic. The Chief Minister could soon convene an all-party meeting on the line.
According to party sources, the ministers and the MLAs voluntarily responded to the call of the Chief Minister and announced to donate a month’s salary for dealing with the situation. Even elected representatives of the civic bodies have also declared giving salary of one month to the Chief Minister Relief Fund.
Baghel stressed for effective monitoring of the situation at the rural level where arrival of migrants pose a serious challenge to check the spread of novel Coronavirus. The Chief Minister had directed the officials to bestow the responsibility to the village head and employee to keep a check of migrants’ movement in the villages where the situation had assumed an alarming proportion.
The state government had tightened medical screening and tests on the Maharashtra borders from where the migrants could cross over into Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister directed party men to take care of basic amenities of the needy during the lockdown period.
