Team News Riveting

Singrauli, June 6

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the Singrauli-based arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), on Sunday took a big leap forward to transport coal from the tracks.

The NCL successfully conducted the trial of coal rake loading from its newly constructed Coal Handling Plant’s Silo in Block-B Area.

In a virtual event, CMD NCL P K Sinha, GM ECR Lalit Chandra Trivedi, Functional Directors of NCL, and senior officials of railways flagged off the trail of coal loading in railway wagons.

Speaking on the occasion, CMD NCL P K Sinha said that the pro-environmental project would not only reduce road transportation but also underpin the dispatch mechanism of NCL. “As our commitment to sustainable green mining, this is our second project to commission this year,” he said.

He also thanked the Coal and Railway Ministry and the officials for support. “The project is a perfect example of a concerted effort of the government agencies in the larger public interest,” Sinha added.

GM ECR Lalit Chandra Trivedi congratulated the team NCL on the occasion and expressed happiness over the completion of the project as it would boost the coal transportation through the zone.

Commencement of Rake loading from the Coal Handling Plant (CHP) having the capacity to handle 3.5 million tonnes of coal per annum can load about 3 rakes per day. The CHP will eliminate about 500 trucks transporting coal each day thereby reducing the carbon footprint. The CHP has a rapid loading system and is equipped with a pre-weigh hopper weighing system which will eliminate under loading and overloading.

It is noteworthy that NCL is spending about Rs 2700 crore as capital expenditure on 9 projects of first-mile connectivity, successful implementation of those will increase NCL’s coal crushing capacity to more than 130 million tonnes and will pave the way to dispatch the targeted coal in environmentally friendly ways by the year 2023-24 making the nation self-reliant in the Coal sector.

NCL, is a Miniratna coal mining giant of the Government of India, operating with its 10 highly mechanized opencast coal mines establishing new benchmarks in all fields including the realm of production and productivity.
