Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), an arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), had provided financial assistance of Rs 90 Lakh to the District Administration of Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh for medical infrastructure to combat COVID-19.
The coal miner had doled out the financial aid from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) head. It would help the district administration for procurement of medical equipment to strengthen the health infrastructure and contain the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
On Wednesday GM (CSR), NCL A K Singh handed over the cheque to DM of Sonbhdra District Abhishek Singh.
The fund will be mainly utilized for the purchase of essential medical equipment such as Pulse Oximeter, Thermal Scanner, Oxygen Flowmeter, Portable Xray Machine, CBC Machine, Auto Analyzer along with PPE kits, Masks, and sanitizers.
Previously, NCL had given Rs 5 crore to the UP government for procurement of 50 ambulances. During the pandemic induced lockdown, the NCL joined hands with the authorities in the distribution of ration kits to the needy. The company is also establishing an oxygen plant in its Atal Hospital Bina in Sonbhadra District.
NCL spent about Rs 32 crore in the last fiscal towards CSR activities in Uttar Pradesh State, a major chunk in Sonbhadra district alone.
