South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a flagship arm of Coal India Limited (CIL), would now augment medical manpower after boosting infrastructure to fight the contagious COVID-19.
The largest coal producing entity of the state-run miner had doled out giant grants, both in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, to assist the authorities in combating the COVID-19. The local authorities had utilized it for building up medical infrastructure and procuring materials.
SECL had now taken initiative to increase the medical manpower. “The company has decided to increase the strength of medical staff in its dispensaries and hospitals,” an SECL spokesperson said. The move is a big leap forward in the fight against COVID-19, he added.
The company had issued notification for appointing 50 medical officers on contractual basis for its COVID care centres. Of it, 42 were for qualified MBBS general duty medical officers while remaining eight were specialists including physicians and anaesthetists. After completing the interview and other process, appointment letters had been issued to 37 eligible candidates. The contract of medical officers would terminate on March 31, 2022.
SECL had also issued advertisements to fill 86 regular posts of medical officers. Of the posts include two senior medical officers (dental) and 32 senior medical officers E-3 grade. The response received is overwhelming and the scrutiny of application was underway in the headquarters. The company is also taking initiative for the appointment of para-medical staff, ward boys and sanitation workers. In all, 195 posts for the categories had been sanctioned with the contract term ending in March 2022.
In its project areas, SECL had set up 16 COVID care centres while 21 vaccination centres were established. Over 50,000 officials, employees, their family members and contract workers have been vaccinated as of now.
