With Sachin Pilot meeting Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra, Congress works out the reconciliation plan with former returning to the party fold.
It would also untangle the crisis that had pushed Congress-led Rajasthan government headed by Ashok Gehlot to the brink. Sachin’s strained relationship with Gehlot hit rock-bottom when Special Operations Group quizzed him on MLAs allegedly being bribed to turn their backs on the Congress and the Chief Minister.
Pilot’s departure to Delhi with some of his supporting legislators on July 11 set off alarm bells in the Congress camp.
Unlike Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot was comparatively a “weak” political play when it came to successfully revolt. The lack of home work and strategy on his part could be seen right from the first day as his confidence swagger always faltered.
The BJP was keeping a close watch on the development but did not plunge into action. The party was wary in dealing with the issue. There were many factors that prevented BJP to keep a distance. Of all, Sachin failed to garner the support of the MLAs that he claimed.
The party managers gave a serious thought whether to entertain every rebel who comes knocking its doors, especially the ones who have ‘inherited’ leadership as a right of succession rather than earn it through hard work, ideological commitment or selfless service and sacrifice.
The BJP has to keep his close intact for being a cadre-based party as late comers and back door entrants from the opposition camp would fail to add very little value. It is even more pertinent in Rajasthan, where the BJP has good cadre strength, deep roots and popular leadership at all levels.
Moreover, Scindia did not show any major aspirations to play a formidable role … but BJP has been sceptical about Sachin, who has been kept with only option to return to Congress or perish.
