Chhattisgarh police gunned down two Communist Party of India (Maoist) cadres in two separate encounters that took place in Orcha area of Narayanpur district.
On Saturday, an operation was launched by the District Reserve Guards (DRG) while acting on a specific input about the presence of CPI Maoist cadres of Local Organisation Squad and Area Committee members of Maad division. At around 9 in the morning, there was an exchange of fire between the DRG team near Itul jungle (PS Orcha, District Narayanpur).
During a search operation after the gunbattle, the body of one male Naxal cadre along with one .303 rifle and huge quantity of camping materials were recovered from the spot.
While the search operation was continuing in the nearby Korawaya jungle, another exchange of fire took place at around 2 pm. In the second encounter, security forces gunned down another male Maoist cadre. The body along with a .315 bore rifle and other country made weapons were recovered from the spot.
The identification of the bodies was in progress. A Search operation had been intensified in the adjoining areas to apprehend the other Naxal cadres, who fled from the spot after both the encounters.
Superintendent of Police, Narayanpur, Mohit Garg interacted with the DRG team and collected information about the exchange of fire. He had passed on information to the nearby police station and camps to establish the identity of both the Maoists.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P informed that during the month of June, five bodies of the rebels killed in encounters across the range have been recovered along with one AK 47 Rifle, one SLR rifle, two .303 rifle, two .315 rifle, two pistols and other country made weapons. All the operations were conducted based on specific intelligence input, he said, adding that search operations would be intensified in the LWE affected areas of Bastar Range during the ensuing monsoon season.
