Chennai, June 23

A bomb threat led to a panic in the Shankarnagar facility of The India Cements Limited past midnight.

“This is to inform you that on the midnight of 22nd June, 2021, based upon an anonymous call to the Plant Head of the Sankamagar Cement Works of our Company, the police were asked to investigate the possibility of any explosive device in the Plant,” the company informed in a regulatory filing. The police located two suspicious ‘small pipes’ which have to be examined for explosive content, it added.

The company said the police had taken into custody a few suspects and were conducting an investigation.

However, there was no interruption of production and the Plant was completely safe. Though panic prevailed for a while, no untoward accident has happened.

The company said the police have complete control and life is normal in the Plant.

The India Cements’ factory at Sankar Nagar in Tirunelveli is one of the oldest plants in the country. It is a ‘mother unit’ for India Cements.
