National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) had planned to commission the coal mines and Nagarnar Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh in the financial year 2021-22 (FY22).
The annual plan meeting of the country’s largest iron ore producer was held today steered and chaired by Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Sumit Deb. Besides the functional directors, the CVOs, heads of projects and departments attended the meeting.
“Our dynamic team convened virtually for the Annual Plan Meeting. We reviewed our progress and laid down the roadmap for FY22 to create increased social and economic value for our nation,” Deb said.
The company said in a tweet that NMDC’s Annual Plan Meeting 2021-22 focussed on commissioning of NISP (NMDC Iron and Steel Plant) besides starting the coal mines. It had also planned digitization of mining operations besides ramping up production to 100 million tonne per annum. Improving quality of life for employees and their families would also be top in the list.
The development and commission of coal mines would be a new venture for the iron ore miner. In 2019, the Union Ministry of Coal had allocated two coal blocks to iron ore mining company NMDC, the Rohne and Tokisud North under Section 5(1) of Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act 2015.
Both the blocks — located at an aerial distance of 10-15 km apart — are located at Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.
The construction of NISP at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district had been almost completed. This would be the first project of NMDC to add value to its product. The plant, having a capacity of 3 million tonne per annum, had been listed for disinvestment by the Government of India.
