Sarda Energy’s Sikkim project goes on full stream

The second unit of Rongnichu (Sikkim) Hydro Power Plant of Sarda Energy and Minerals Limited (SEML) had commenced full load commercial operation facilitating the 113-Mw project to go on full stream.

“In continuation to our intimation dt. 26th June 2021, we are pleased to inform that the unit No. two of 56.5 MW of 113 MW Rongnichu Hydro Electric Plant installed by Madhya Bharat Power Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of the Company, has also been granted clearance under Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Indian Electricity Grid Code) Regulations, 2016 for supply of power post successful completion of trial run operation after demonstrating continuous operation at full load for 12 hours and testing for 10 per cent overload (62.15 MW) on June 30, 2021,” SEML said in a regulatory filing today.

Sarda Energy and Minerals Limited (SEML) is a flagship arm of Chhattisgarh-based Sarda Group.

On June 25, the unit No. One of 56.5 MW had started full load operation.

The RongniChu Hydro-Electric Project, located in East District of Sikkim envisages to utilize the flows of the Rongni Chu, a tributary of the Teesta River, for the generation of electrical power as a run-of-river hydropower development.

The project is close to State Highway NH31A. The power generated shall be evacuated by a 7.5Km long 220KV D/C line from kumrek generating substation to PGCIL’s Rangpo pooling substation at Samardung.
