NMDC’s production up by 18% in June

Continuing on its growth trajectory, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) registered a spurt in sales and production in the month of June 2021.

While the production surged 18 per cent to 2.98 million tonne (MT) in June 2021 compared to 2.52 MT registered during previous year’s corresponding period, sales of the country’s largest iron ore producer and exported went up by nearly 30 per cent. The company recorded a sale of 3.18 MT in June 2021 compared to previous year’s 2.48 MT.

The cumulative production and sales till June 2021 were 8.89 MT and 9.57 MT respectively, achieving 34 per cent increase in production and 49 per cent in sales over the corresponding period of last fiscal. With this, company surpasses its previous best for any Q1 since inception.

NMDC is India’s single largest iron ore producer, presently producing about 35 million tonnes of iron ore from 3 fully mechanized mines, two located in Chhattisgarh and one in Karnataka.

According to the NMDC’s annual plan for 2021-22, company eyes to enhance iron-ore output to 100 MT besides commissioning NISP (NMDC Iron and Steel Plant) located in Bastar and starting the coal mines in Jharkhand. It had also planned digitization of mining operations.

“The first quarter sets the tone for what we expect to be one of our best years. This momentum could see us surpass our production and sales target for FY 2022. That such a strong performance is being achieved in such testing times is particularly gratifying,” Sumit Deb, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NMDC, said.
