The Communist Party of India (Marxist) that clashed with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal is ready to join hands with its arch rival to take on BJP at the National level.

Senior Left Front leader and CPM state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra called upon all the political parties to unite to “eliminating” the BJP. He hinted at the possibility of coming together with arch enemies — the Left and the Trinamool Congress.

“To remove the BJP, all parties, including TMC, should be united,” he said at an event to mark the 133rd birth anniversary of Muzaffar Ahmed, the famous Bengali politician and communist.

Mishra said: “Equating the Trinamool Congress with the BJP was our mistake”. He was referring to the CPM’s 2021 state election catchphrase, ‘BJmool’, which was an attempt to convey to the voters that the BJP and Trinamool Congress were two sides of the same coin. The party had earlier said that the phrase had created confusion in the minds of the voters.

The CPM leader’s comment had made it clear that it was looking forward to sitting with the TMC at the National level to fight the BJP juggernaut.

Sources in the TMC said that the party was not much interested in take the support of CPM. A senior TMC leader while referring to the West Bengal state polls said they had defeated the BJP and now it was for the other political parties to design its strategies.
