An official comparatively junior to handle high profile case was reportedly assigned the investigation of infamous Darbhanga blast case that had rocked the country in May this year.
The incident took place on June 17 when there was an explosion in a parcel on platform 1 of the Darbhanga railway station. However, no one was injured. The parcel, booked in Secunderabad, was transported on board the Secunderabad-Darbhanga Express with a motive to convert it into a burning train had the bomb went off on tracks.
The NIA took over the case on June 24 and arrested the brothers, based on the findings.
The investigation was reportedly conducted by an officer who had literally zero hours experience in investigation. The NIA had assigned its Superintendent of Police Navin Tyagi to probe the incident who was a part of the administration wing in the NIA for two years. He joined the agency in 2019 from BSF where he was an ASP but was directly recruited as SP in NIA.
Sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs said that many seniors were surprised over the development. The other major blasts probe in Bihar including Bodh Gaya was handled by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official.
Despite having reportedly no legal training or training related to investigation, the officer was asked to investigate the sensitive Darbhanga blast case with international ramifications. He was shifted to the investigation wing of the NIA in June this year and was immediately made the Investigating Officer of this high-profile case.
Sources said the manpower crunch in the NIA could be the reason for assigning “inexperienced” officials to probe sensitive cases. However, neither the official nor NIA could be contacted for its version on the issue.
